New Haven Dialogos:
Religion and Social Justice: Toward the Beloved Community
Dialogos, a signature program of the Fred Gray Institute for Human and Civil Rights, hosted by Yale Divinity School, is a facilitated conversation among scholars, religious leaders, and practitioners from diverse traditions. The gathering begins Thursday evening with an opening plenary delivered by Bryan Stevenson of EJI, followed by dinner for delegates. Rather than a conference of speeches, Dialogos invites leaders to explore questions at the intersection of faith, human dignity, justice, and democratic life. Friday will unfold in three integrated rounds that move from brief orienting presentations into small‑group cluster conversations and then into plenary exchanges, allowing ideas to mature from individual insight into shared discernment. After each orienting presentation, clusters of five or six will gather for sustained conversation, careful listening, and reflective engagement as they surface themes and insights that may serve the whole. In the plenary exchanges, the full group will reconvene to carry those insights forward, shaping them into shared commitments and enabling the work of many to become the work of one community. President Sims and Dean Sterling will convene the final panel interaction, drawing together what has emerged and identifying themes for continued exploration.
Travel
For Delegates Travel to Yale is the only step you would need to arrange directly. Once you arrive at Yale Divinity School, all on‑site expenses will be covered, including one night of lodging, three meals during the convening, and local transportation connected to the program schedule. Our aim is to remove any practical barriers so that delegates can focus entirely on the work of shared discernment and dialogue.
Lodging
We are grateful to Dean Sterling and Yale Divinity School for generously underwriting lodging for all delegates at Hotel Marcel on Thursday, October 22. Please use the booking link provided to confirm your reservation. A credit card will be required at check‑in for incidentals and any additional charges incurred during your stay.
If additional nights are needed, a limited number of rooms have been reserved and should be booked as soon as possible. Once those additional rooms within our block have been reserved, attendees may still book directly through Hotel Marcel with a separate reservation. They should not need to change rooms during their stay.
